OBIEE 11g Implementation Server Sizing Categories
The below metrics indicate the Server Sizing Categories for OBIEE 11g Implementations.

Operating System\CPU & Other Areas Recommendations
Do we capacity plan for UNIX differently than Windows?
YES and NO. In general the scale scenario’s are done against a chipset verse saying UNIX or Windows. As an example for an Intel P4 we size similarly for both Windows and Linux (verse the Solaris T2000 Chip).
Should I ever make a capacity recommendation of 1 CPU?
It Depends. For a modern multi-core chip we can recommend 1CPU . But for single-core chip we should not recommend 1 CPU ; Please note that we count Hyper-threaded or SMT enabled chip as just one single chip ; e.g 1 CPU hyper-threaded is still considered as 1 CPU even though system monitoring can show 2 CPUs.
Additional Factoids
•SAW to SAS is a 3 to 1 ratio of utilization (memory and CPU).
•SAW consumes 1.6 GB of Memory @ 100%
•SAS consumes 520 MB of Memory @ 100%
•Basis utilization ratio’s there is much better resource utilization (not capacity) if SAS and SAW is located on the same machine
•Intel 32 bit cannot address more than 3 GB of Memory
If you put both SAS and SAW on the same 32 bit box then 6 GB of is addressable (basis 2 processes)
