Google Cloud Platform (GCP) updates and announcements -June 2025

June 2025 has been a busy month for Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with several significant updates and announcements. Here are some of the key features.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning:

Gemini 2.5:

Gemini 2.5 Flash: Now generally available in Vertex AI, offering a cost-efficient "thinking model." Reasoning can be controlled to balance performance and budget.

Gemini 2.5 Pro: Will be generally available soon after Flash. It is now live in AI Studio, Vertex AI, and the Gemini app, with advanced capabilities like large-scale simulations.

Text-to-Speech: New previews for text-to-speech are available in 2.5 Pro and 2.5 Flash, with features like support for multiple speakers and expressive nuances.

Vertex AI: Expanded generative media models for video, image, speech, and music, including Veo 3 for video, Imagen 4 for images, and Lyria 2 for music.

Agent Development Kit (ADK) and Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol: Google is launching and improving the ADK and A2A protocol to simplify the development and management of multi-agent systems, enabling agents to collaborate across different frameworks and models. Over 50 partners are contributing to defining the A2A protocol.

Jules: A new autonomous AI coding agent, now in public beta, assists developers with tasks like writing tests and fixing bugs.

Cloud Run: Simplified deployment of AI applications, with features like single-button deployment from Google AI Studio and support for Gemma 3 models with GPU acceleration.

Infrastructure and Development:

Ironwood TPU: Google's seventh-generation Tensor Processing Unit (TPU), optimized for generative AI inference, was announced at Google Cloud Next '25. It delivers significantly improved performance and energy efficiency compared to previous versions.

AI Hypercomputer: Enhancements have been introduced to the AI Hypercomputer stack, which supports demanding AI workloads.

Cloud WAN: A fully managed, reliable, and secure enterprise backbone for connecting your enterprise, leveraging Google's global network.

Application Design Center: Now in preview, providing a visual way to design application templates and configure deployments.

Database Center: Now generally available, providing a unified, AI-powered fleet management solution for all GCP databases.

GKE Inference Gateway: Offers intelligent scaling and load-balancing for AI workloads, helping optimize resource utilization.

Firestore with MongoDB compatibility: In preview, allowing developers to use MongoDB APIs with Firestore's scalability and reliability.

Database Migration Service (DMS): Now supports SQL Server to PostgreSQL migrations for Cloud SQL and AlloyDB.

Cloud Run with GPUs: Generally available, offering scalable and cost-effective deployment of AI applications.

Data Analytics:

BigQuery: AI agents are being embedded in BigQuery to assist with tasks like data pipeline creation, data preparation, anomaly detection, and metadata generation.

Looker: Innovations have been made to the Looker conversational BI platform.

Managed Service for Apache Kafka: Kafka Connect support is now in public preview, enabling seamless data streaming between Kafka clusters and other systems.

Security:

Google Unified Security: A new converged security platform combining threat intelligence, security operations, and more.

AI-powered security analytics: Designed to detect and mitigate threats faster across multi-cloud environments.

Other Highlights:

Google Workspace: New AI tools are being added to Docs, Sheets, Chat, and other Workspace applications.

Real-time speech translation: Available in Google Meet, enabling more natural conversations across languages.

AI avatars: Included in Google Vids to streamline the creation of content like training videos.

AI-driven data analytics: BigQuery and Looker are being augmented with AI to improve data analysis capabilities.

These are some of the key features and announcements made in June 2025. Google Cloud Platform continues to innovate and enhance its offerings, especially in the areas of AI, machine learning, and security. More detailed information can be found in the official Google Cloud blog and documentation.
